Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.” (1 Chr. 29:11 ESVi)
“And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” Isaiah 6:3
We have all had those perfect moments. You know, the ones where we wish we could stay forever in? Those moments where everything just seems to click. Joy, peace, contentment. There’s a smile from your eyes all the way to the tip of your toes, making your whole being tingle. All is well, if just for that moment. I call these moments, glimpses of glory. A view into the heavenly. A window into eternity. Glimpses of glory.
They are Gods gift to humanity. An emphatic reminder that eternity is real. Those tiny moments are a mere reflection of reality in heaven. That is why when we experience them, we want to stay in the moment forever. Our spirit knows we were made for something more, created for the eternal. Our spirit recognizes these glimpses of glory and does a happy dance inside of us. It’s a hallelujah moment.
We need to learn to acknowledge the moments of the eternal in our everyday life. Be it in a hug, an unexpected gift, a touch. A cup of coffee with a friend. The compliment of a spouse. The beauty of a sunset. Be it in holding hands or walking down a country road. Maybe it’s in the sticky fingerprint of a child on your window, a reminder of life. Maybe it’s the person sitting right beside you, just being there. Sometimes it’s those moments that you take the time for, like the feeling of green grass beneath you, eyes closed, sunshine on your face. Standing in the rain, sweetness pouring down on you, best smell in the world. The extraordinary in the everyday life. That moment of the simple things being the most perfect gift. We can learn to acknowledge these and recognize them as the gifts of God that they are. And if we open our eyes to them, we’ll be surprised at the thousands upon thousands, glimpses of glory.
It’s not that we don’t have them, because we do. It’s the very nature of God to give to His children and He does so in millions and in variety of ways. Often we take those moments for granted. I’ve long thought, that if God would suddenly remove Himself from this earth for even a moment, we’d descend into such darkness it would destroy everything. He’s simply THE good in our lives. He’s the brightness, the light, the color, the aroma, the very life, all around us. Whatever it is that brings a smile to your face, it’s got God wrapped all around it. His goodness has run before you and prepared the way, it has covered and overtaken you. So go ahead. Celebrate the moment you are in right now. Maybe it’s a glimpse of glory. And maybe, just maybe, you and I, are also meant to be glimpses of glory. A walking, living, and breathing realization to the world, that heaven and glory are amazingly powerful and real. Right here, right now.
What is the glory?
Well, in Exodus 33, Moses was also curious and asked the Lord, "Please show me your glory!”
The Lord replied and said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass before you and I will proclaim my name –THE LORD– in your presence.”
The glory of God is His goodness! God gave Moses an insight, an understanding of His very character! What strikes me is that God had to protect Moses as the glory of God passed by. Moses could not see the fullness of God, the perfection of God and still live. It was too much for a human to bear. This is amazing to me. The goodness of God is so incredible it is overwhelming in its power! We see only glimpses and these are so good they fill our hearts to overflowing. Now can you imagine the fullness of it?
I believe the glory of God IS weighty. You can feel its fullness, it’s greatness, and it’s impossible for the natural man to bear. But the spiritual man is able to grasp and carry the weightier things of heaven and of God.
Just as a side note, if you want to get a deeper understanding, I challenge you to do a study on the glory of God. It’s amazingly refreshing. Here are some of my favorite verses on Gods glory:
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For the darkness shall cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord shall rise upon you, and His glory shall be seen upon you.” Isaiah 60:1-2 MEV
Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and Amen!” Psa. 72:19 ESV
And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”Is. 40:5 ESV
Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.” Is. 58:8 ESV
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” Hab. 2:14 ESV
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 ESV
Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” John 11:40 ESV
